What a night at the sand pit volleyball courts at Weed Park on Wednesday! As the season winds down (we have only one game left), the pickin's are gettin' slim in the league as a whole. Most Wednesday nights, there are two games running simultaneously from 6 PM to 9:30 PM. When we arrived at the courts at 8:30 PM this week, tumbleweeds threatened to roll through with the lack of players sighted after the 7:30 PM game finished. Two teams have dropped out of the league, and many teams struggle to get all their members to the court.

Apparently, these are perfect conditions for the WCFM Warriors to win. Our opponent had only 3 team members present at game time. Both teams agreed to play, with WCFM offering to play our required 3-girl minimum plus only 1 guy for the first game. With one of the women on the opposing team visibly pregnant, we decided to take it game-by-game. Our first game was a series of close volleys for points, with Dan N. making some powerhouse serves to move us up the scoreboard for the win. Both teams felt good enough about that for a second game. In the middle of the second game, our opponents picked up one more male teammate, so we added in a second male for a game of 5-on-4. After a few close calls with some shots with serious spin on them, we pulled out our second win to take the match! 

Finally, we can add a win to our record, which now stands at 8-21. To close out the night, we mixed and matched team members to play 2 more friendly games. We're looking forward to our last game next Wednesday (08/08) at 6 PM. If you're around, come join our end-of-season celebration at the sand courts shelter in Weed Park.
