Day 6!
Well, as part of my other job, I am cavorting through the U.S. Caribbean right now, letting all of NOAA Fisheries' constituents and partners know about
the proposed rule to list 66 species of corals as threatened or endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA). The ESA is one of the most prolific pieces of environmental legislation in our nation's history. Corals are animals that secrete a limestone shell. Therefore, these stationary animals create important habitat for fish and other underwater creatures. Coral reefs are some of the most important ecosystems out there because of their biodiversity, beauty, and shoreline protection benefits. Nemo would have no home were it not for coral reefs. Protecting these animals under the ESA would help us conserve these habitats through more thoughtful and responsible management of watersheds, common resources, and reef activities.
Additionally, and more relevantly, if you've been following our
Facebook updates or
Twitter feed, then you also know I've been keepin' it Paleo to the best of my ability while traveling. It ain't easy, but I am doing my best. Of course, it's a lot easier when I absolutely can't drink any sugary tropical cocktails...
