WHAT A WEEKEND!!
We had three 4-person, co-ed teams compete at the Urban Street Games this past weekend. Two of our teams were in the scaled division, and one team in the Rx division.
We started on Friday afternoon. After our 4 PM check-in on Friday there was a lot of waiting. There were 52 teams competing, so there were a lot of heats. Our scaled teams did not go until about 6:30 PM, and the Rx'd team did not go until 8:30 PM. Here is the local new coverage from the first night of competition.
Saturday was a full, FULL day. Lots of work and lots of waiting. Everyone got there by about 8:30 AM for the athlete briefing at the riverfront. Our first WOD was a run and row relay. Scaled teams went at 9 AM, right off the bat, and our Rx'd team went at 11 AM. Our second WOD was not until 12:20 and 2:20, respectively. The second WOD included sandbag back squats, tire flips, and handstand pushups.
Our last WODs were at 4 And 6:30 PM, respectively. Ugh. We were all so tired, grimy, and hot by then and it was the most grueling WOD of them all (of course). The WOD time was capped at 25 minutes. We started with pullups and burpees. Then we ran to the wall featured in the news clip, with sandbags, and we had to get ourselves and the bags up and over the wall FIVE TIMES. I thought I was in hell and that we would never finish all 5 up and overs. The WOD DID NOT END THERE. We had doubleunders. After completing 500 of those (between all of us), we had to complete 100 axel bar cleans (an axel bar is a large-diameter barbell that does not spin, which makes cleans a little more difficult). The Rx'd team missed 100 cleans by 2 reps when the 25 minutes was up. The WOD also included a sandbag run, and finished when all athletes reached the top of the wall with the sandbags. Our Rx'd team did not make it that far, obviously, but our two scaled teams DID, and I am forever in awe of their efforts.
Ultimately, the Rx'd team finished in 10th place out of 20. Our scaled teams finished in 24 and 25th places in their division, with
the "vintage" team, MuscaVegas Elites beating the "youngins",
MuscaReno's Finest, by 2 points. They were quite proud of that, and
rightly so. Every single athlete gave a solid performance in this competition. Full results of all WODs are here.
It was fun event and we all came out a little banged up and tired. I have some bruises from the straps on the sled pull, from the axel bar bouncing into my collar bone on the cleans, and from climbing up and over the wall. Ryan ripped his hands pretty terribly on the chest-to-bar-pullups.
As usual QCCF put on a well-organized event with really fun WODs and a great atmosphere in downtown Rock Island. We appreciate everyone that came out to support and watch us compete. We hope to have even more teams represent WCFM next year!!
