"The start is what stops most people."
- Don Shula

I remember the first time I heard about CrossFit. Maybe you had the same reaction. I said to myself, "What in the heck? You all is CRAZY. I'm not doing that." I was fine running my miles each week...until I wasn't. Running got boring. For years I ran without music because of the urban routes of my morning runs. I wanted to be aware of cars and other pedestrians, but then to mix things up, I added my iPod shuffle and some bouncy beats. Then I tried different races at different distances. The change-up would do the trick for a little while, and then...wha whaaaa. Bored again.

Then finally I tried boot camp at the local university's rec center. My instructor did CrossFit and incorporated a lot of the bodyweight movements and programming philosophy into her workouts for us (sound familiar, Scott?). Then, Jacob got me going to the gym on MacDill Air Force Base with him where he introduced me to Curtis P and the barbell complex. Somewhere along the line I clearly got hooked, but it was a gradual introduction.

Some folks can jump right into CrossFit, particularly if they met with a barbell before. Others of us need a little warm up time and that's OK. Start at home. Start with a friend. Start with a walk. Start slow. Start light. Start with our two intro classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We know CrossFit is intimidating; however, the important thing is that you START your active lifestyle and stick with it.
