Meet August's Warrior of the Month
Edwin Steinke
Why did you start CrossFitting?
I started CrossFit because I was bored of the globo gym experience. Plus I knew I wanted to change my lifestyle. It was either going to be Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) or CrossFit. I am so not a fighter, but a lover. I showed up one late September day scared as hell and mucho fat -- not even able to do one pull up. I started CrossFit with a friend; the friend soon fell off the wagon as I continued to come in day after day. What I soon found out with enough sweat and effort anything was possible. It is like an addiction, but a good addiction (like meth, but you can keep your teeth).
Least Favorite Exercise?
My least favorite exercise would have to be anything with doubleunders and running.
Favorite Exercise?
My most favorite workout would be Olympic lifts: Snatch, Squat, Clean and Jerk, and anything where weight is present. My favorite Girl WODs are Diane, Fran, and Elizabeth.
Advice for Newbies?
The biggest advice I have for Newbies is that Rome wasn’t built over night. It took time and it is going to take time to get where you want to be. CrossFit is tough, but you have to embrace the suck. Once you embrace the suck you find out that your head is your biggest enemy. The mental aspect is the toughest to refine, but once you do your body will exceed expectations. Walk in the box, look at the work, and say you’re going to bust some ass. My strategy is to “embrace the suck”.
Goals in/outside of the box within the next year (races, competitions, pounds of deer bacon, etc.)? The major goal is to compete in The CrossFit Open next year and make it to The CrossFit Games Regionals. I want a T-Shirt (haha). I want to continue to do CrossFit competitions to gauge my progress with the fundamental movements. Also it allows me to judge how my training is going and gives me the ability to tweak it. I would like to compete and win in the CrossFit Garage Games series. I am also going to continue to run 5Ks and I want to be able to run one in under 20 minutes. I also want to lose 10-15 pounds so I can be the ideal weight. I want to be Level 1 CrossFit Certified in the coming year. And I want to win the Paleo Challenge!
WOD
100 Curtis Ps for Time (95/65)
