Meet May's Warrior of the Month
Lindsay Cox
Why did you start CrossFit?
I started CrossFit last summer after a friend suggested I try it out. I wanted to get involved in something new and start meeting new people. I was not in the best of shape and was looking for some type of exercise that I enjoyed. After the first day of CrossFit, I remember we did pistols and Coach Sarah lead my first class. I could not walk the next day but was hooked immediately! I haven't looked back since.
Favorite exercise?
I can't say I have one favorite exercise but I like the WODs with multiple different stations as opposed to AMRAPs. I'm beginning to really like doubleunders after finally being able to do more than 1 in a row.
Least favorite?
My least favorite exercise would be overhead squats! I have yet to figure out how to execute these correctly. Hopefully this year, I will be able to improve on this weakness.
Athletic goals in the next year; CrossFit or otherwise?
My athletic goals would be to continue building endurance. I will be running my first 5K this summer and would like to be able to run the entire race. I have accomplished so much this year and this allows me to see the potential in physical fitness for myself.
Favorite Pandora Station for WODs?
After "3,2,1...GO" I don't usually pay attention to what's playing.
Finally, do you have any advice for newcomers?
My advice for newcomers would be to just come to the first class. Often times I hear people say they will not be able to keep up, or that it sounds really hard. My response to them is you have to start somewhere and yes, it is hard. Everyone was once a beginner and in my experience, others that participate in CrossFit are helpful and encouraging. If I was not doing something right or had a question, anyone was willing to jump in and help. It's such a sense of motivation to have everyone behind you pushing you to be better. So bottom line, just at least try it.
