Unit #20 and organizer extraordinaire: Cindy K.
A guest post from Cindy Klebe, recapping the recent blood drive.
WCFM Blood Drive a HUGE Success!

Wow, the Warrior CrossFit community really came through on July 26th, 2014 for the first-ever WCFM Blood Drive! The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center's overall goal for us was 11 units. My personal goal was 19 units.  The actual number of units donated was 20!

The nurses AND my blood drive coordinator Anna, all told me that a first-time blood drive (especially if it's held at an exercise place) is usually very slow and barely gets the minimum 11 units. The nurses flat-out told me that they were dreading this day. Well, the good news is that we totally surprised them and they were ecstatic with the number of people who took the time to donate.  They were even more excited about the number of first time donors we had. Nine of you were first time donors!

Anna and the nurses told me that they had a really fun day with it being so busy. They started early and they stayed late to get all the units collected and packed up. A couple of the nurses even tried a rope climb afterwards!  Anna emailed me to tell me that she received many good comments about the success of the Warrior CrossFit Blood Drive.  Her counterpart in Cedar Rapids used the phrase, "Holy Crossfit Batman!" and asked me what it was I did to get so many donors.  I told him that the CrossFit community is a great group of people that support each other.  He recently started going to a CrossFit gym in Cedar Rapids, and he is eager to hold a drive there now.  He said in his email that "crossfitters go all out in whatever they do," and that was certainly the case here.

We had a total of 13 Warrior CrossFitters donate! A huge thank you to Paige, Doug, Payton, Tim, Susan, John, Jacob, Mike, Cindy, Kate, Tracey, Lisa, and Andrew for donating. Of these folks, 7 of you were first time donors! A special thanks to Kate Klingborg for providing the tables, chairs and cookies; and to Coaches Jacob and Sarah Garvin for letting me crash the Box to host it!

I hope you will all consider getting on a regular donation schedule now. Blood donations really drop off in the summer, so every little bit helps. The local donation center is here in Muscatine next to Hy-Vee in the little strip mall.  Check them out sometime.  You can also go online at www.bloodcenter.org to learn more.  If you gave this day, the next time you're eligible to donate is September 20th!  Tracey and I have made our appointments already, how 'bout you?

Thanks for saving a life!  The WCFM community is a great one to be a part of!
