You many have noticed our recent event announcement for our Halloween fundraising event, the MCSA Monster Mash, a friendly come-as-you competition. Usually October is when we host our annual Barbells for Boobs fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness month; however, as you may recall from a blog post this past March, we voiced some concerns about continuing our support of Barbells for Boobs. Ultimately, we decided that it was time to move our support to a different, local charity where we could see immediate benefits to those in need in our own community.

Muscatine Center for Social Action (MCSA) is that local charity organization. MCSA provides emergency and temporary shelter, basic health care, educational and support services for those in need in Muscatine County. These are basic needs for every person and MCSA is there doing the hard work of providing tools and support for people needing assistance in rebuilding their lives. For more information on what MCSA does and who they help, please check out their website.

Our MCSA Monster Mash Fundraiser will work very similarly to our past Barbells for Boobs events. Come in anytime during open gym (8 AM to 12 PM) on Saturday, October 31st, 2015, and complete one of the competition WODs as an individual, or as part of a 2-person team. We will have Rx'd and Scaled divisions, and WODs and movement standards will be announced well before the event.

We ask that all athletes wishing to participate as competitors donate $20 to MCSA as well as raise funds in support of MCSA. The competitors in each division raising the most funds for MCSA will receive a special prize (TBA). The goal for this event is to have fun, get a good sweat on, and support a great local organization that is doing great work in our community.

For past fundraising events the WCFM community managed to raise several thousand dollars for the charities we support. We hope we can repeat that success this year in support of MCSA. So dust off those contact lists, start planning your Halloween costumes, and get set to go to the mats for overall bragging rights.
